Another coastal pool successfully restored in Melkbosstrand.
THE PROBLEM:
This gunite pool was 18 years old. The marbelite surface had cracked extensively, leading to persistent leaks and ongoing water loss. The internal finish had also become rough and porous, allowing black algae to form and spread easily.
The coastal conditions in Melkbosstrand, including strong wind and salt air, had accelerated the deterioration season after season, making the problem worse over time.
THE FIX:
All failed marbelite was stripped back to solid gunite to expose a stable structural base.
Cracks were sealed and weak areas were reinforced to restore integrity.
A full fiberglass lining system was then applied, bonded directly to the shell.
The surface was finished with a smooth aqua-blue flowcoat for durability and a clean finish.
The system was installed to withstand Melkbosstrand’s wind, salt, and sand exposure.
THE RESULT:
The pool is now 100% waterproof with a smooth, non-porous surface that resists algae growth. All leakage issues have been eliminated, and the pool no longer requires constant refilling.
The client confirmed that the pool is now holding water properly and is significantly easier to maintain. The system installed is expected to provide a lifespan of approximately 15–20 years under normal maintenance conditions.
