Homes in Constantia are known for their beautiful outdoor spaces and large swimming pools — but over time, even the best pools start to show their age. Worn surfaces, outdated equipment, and rising running costs are common issues.
At GIBBS POOLS, we specialise in pool resurfacing, fiberlining, and equipment upgrades, helping homeowners modernise their pools for better performance, lower costs, and a fresh new look.
Our Recent Pool Resurfacing Project in Constantia
Recently, our team completed a full pool resurfacing and equipment upgrade project in Constantia for a client whose pool had both a failing surface and outdated equipment. The existing marbelite was over 20 years old, rough, stained, and beginning to delaminate, making it difficult to maintain clean water.
At the same time, the pool was running on an old single-speed pump and a leaking sand filter, resulting in high electricity usage and poor filtration.

We carried out a full upgrade by resurfacing the pool with a durable fiberglass lining and installing a new energy-efficient variable-speed pump along with a modern sand filter system. The result was a completely transformed pool — smooth, crystal-clear, and far more efficient to run. This project shows how combining resurfacing with equipment upgrades delivers the best long-term value.
The Problem: Tired Surface & Expensive Equipment
The client’s pool had two major issues:
- Aging, damaged surface – rough, stained, and prone to algae growth
- Old pump and filter system – noisy, inefficient, and costly to run
Older pools often become expensive to maintain due to increased chemical use, water loss, and high electricity consumption.
Why Resurface & Upgrade at the Same Time?
Doing both in one project has major advantages:
- One drain only – ideal since resurfacing requires an empty pool
- Lower electricity costs – modern pumps use up to 70–80% less power
- Better water quality – smooth surfaces and improved filtration
- Modern warranties – new surface and equipment start together
- Long-term reliability – fewer repeat issues and repairs
Our Constantia Resurfacing & Upgrade Process
1. Drain, Strip & Prepare
The pool is safely drained, and all damaged marbelite is removed to expose a solid base. Old pipework and fittings are also removed where necessary.
2. Structural Repairs
Cracks are repaired, fittings replaced, and the shell is cleaned and prepared for resurfacing.
3. Full Fiberlining Resurface
A new fiberglass lining is applied across the entire pool, creating a seamless, non-porous waterproof surface. Finished with a modern flowcoat and updated mosaic waterline.
4. New Pump & Filter Installation
We install a complete upgraded system, including:
- Variable-speed pump – quieter and highly energy-efficient
- New sand filter with glass media – improved filtration and longer lifespan
- Digital timer and chlorination system – for easier maintenance
5. Fill & Chemical Start-Up
The pool is filled in one go and balanced immediately. The client is guided on how to operate the new system efficiently.
