Pool repairs in Gardens: established gardens, older shells and heavy leaf load
Gardens pools sit in one of the oldest parts of Cape Town, which means mature trees, established plots and a lot of pools that were built decades ago and have been patched rather than properly restored. Gibbs Pools covers Gardens with the full repair offering: leak detection, relining and resurfacing, structural repair and pump and filtration repairs.
Need pool repairs in Gardens? The quick answer:
- Free on-site assessment with a written, itemised quote
- Leaks, relining, pumps and filtration, one team for the whole job
- Published case-study prices: 8m x 4m fibreglass reline R54 000 to R60 000
Leaf load is the quiet killer here: filtration health decides everything. Call 069 955 1310 or book your free pool assessment.
What heavy leaf load does to a Gardens swimming pool
Mature trees create a maintenance-to-repair pipeline we see constantly in Gardens:
- Leaves and debris pass the skimmer basket and reach the filter
- The sand bed mats and channels while the pressure gauge still looks normal
- Water dulls, chlorine demand climbs and algae takes hold in shaded corners
- The pump strains against a blinding filter until seals and bearings fail
Our fix works the whole chain: filter rebedded or laterals repaired, pump serviced honestly, and practical advice on covers and skimmer upgrades.
Pool leak detection in Gardens: old plumbing under mature gardens
Decades-old pipework under established gardens eventually meets tree roots, and that is where many Gardens leaks originate. We pressure test line by line so a mature garden does not become a trench, then dye test the shell to rule it in or out.
Pool relining and resurfacing in Gardens
Older Gardens pools are often gunite or heavily patched marbelite. Fibreglass relining seals the shell and ends the patch cycle. Our published benchmark is the Cape Farms 8m x 4m fibreglass reline at R54 000 to R60 000, photographed at every stage. Gardens pools quote proportionally, in writing, after a free assessment. See a full conversion in our 10m x 5m Kuilsriver project.

Pool repairs in Gardens: frequently asked questions
How much do pool repairs cost in Gardens?
Repairs are quoted in writing after a free on-site assessment. As a published benchmark, an 8m x 4m fibreglass reline runs R54 000 to R60 000 all inclusive, and our 10m x 5m Kuilsriver gunite conversion came to R47 983. Leak detection and pump repairs are quoted once we have found the actual fault.
How do I find a leak in my pool?
Watch for water loss beyond normal evaporation, damp patches in the garden, or a pool that drops faster when the pump runs. We confirm it with line-by-line pressure testing and dye testing at the shell, so we open one targeted spot rather than trenching a whole garden.
How long does a pool reline take in Gardens?
Usually 2 to 5 days on site, depending on pool size and how bad the old surface is. See our full fibreglass pool relining timeline for the day by day breakdown.
Do you give free quotes for pool repairs in Gardens?
Yes. The on-site assessment is free and you receive an itemised written quote naming the actual faults, worst first, with real prices.
How often should filter sand be changed under heavy leaf load?
More often than a sheltered pool, because heavy organic load shortens sand life meaningfully. We assess the bed condition on site rather than quoting a one-size answer.
Is a pool cover worth it in Gardens?
Against constant leaf load, absolutely. It is the single highest-impact accessory for a pool under mature trees, cutting debris, evaporation and chemical use at once.
