Pool repairs in Clifton: cliffside plots, extreme salt exposure and premium finishes
Clifton pools are among the most exposed in Cape Town: cliffside plots, direct Atlantic salt spray, severe wind, and finishes that owners expect to look immaculate. Gibbs Pools covers Clifton with the full repair offering: leak detection, relining and resurfacing, structural repair and pump and filtration repairs.
Need pool repairs in Clifton? The quick answer:
- Free on-site assessment with a written, itemised quote
- Leaks, relining, pumps and filtration, one team for the whole job
- Published case-study prices: 8m x 4m fibreglass reline R54 000 to R60 000
Direct salt spray is far harsher than ordinary coastal air. Call 069 955 1310 or book your free pool assessment.
What direct salt spray does to a Clifton swimming pool
Clifton is the harshest pool environment on the peninsula and it shows in a predictable order:
- Exposed metal corrodes rapidly, including fasteners, rails and light housings
- Salt spray settles on the water surface and lifts chemical demand
- Full-day sun and reflected glare chalk gelcoat faster than anywhere inland
- Wind-driven sand scours surfaces and loads the filter continuously
On Clifton pools we specify coastal-appropriate fittings as a matter of course, because standard plated hardware simply does not survive here.
Pool leak detection in Clifton: cliffside access and structural plant rooms
Clifton plots are steep, often multi-level, and plant rooms are frequently built into structure rather than sitting in a garden. Guesswork is prohibitively expensive here, so we pressure test each line and dye test the shell before anything is opened.
Pool relining and resurfacing in Clifton
Premium Clifton finishes need a surface that holds its appearance under brutal UV and salt, which is where a quality fibreglass gelcoat earns its place. Our published benchmark is the Cape Farms 8m x 4m fibreglass reline at R54 000 to R60 000, photographed at every stage. Clifton pools quote proportionally, in writing, after a free assessment. See a full conversion in our 10m x 5m Kuilsriver project.

Pool repairs in Clifton: frequently asked questions
How much do pool repairs cost in Clifton?
Repairs are quoted in writing after a free on-site assessment. As a published benchmark, an 8m x 4m fibreglass reline runs R54 000 to R60 000 all inclusive, and our 10m x 5m Kuilsriver gunite conversion came to R47 983. Leak detection and pump repairs are quoted once we have found the actual fault.
How do I find a leak in my pool?
Watch for water loss beyond normal evaporation, damp patches in the garden, or a pool that drops faster when the pump runs. We confirm it with line-by-line pressure testing and dye testing at the shell, so we open one targeted spot rather than trenching a whole garden.
How long does a pool reline take in Clifton?
Usually 2 to 5 days on site, depending on pool size and how bad the old surface is. See our full fibreglass pool relining timeline for the day by day breakdown.
Do you give free quotes for pool repairs in Clifton?
Yes. The on-site assessment is free and you receive an itemised written quote naming the actual faults, worst first, with real prices.
Why does pool equipment corrode so fast in Clifton?
Direct Atlantic salt spray is far more aggressive than ordinary coastal air. Standard plated hardware fails quickly, which is why we specify coastal-appropriate fittings on Clifton pools as standard.
Can you work on a steep cliffside Clifton property?
Yes. Access affects how we plan materials, equipment and timing, and we tell you upfront if it changes the quote rather than surprising you later.
