Honest pool repairs for Parow’s hard-working pools

Parow pools are workhorses. These are family pools that get used — grandkids in December, borehole top-ups through summer restrictions, decades of sun on surfaces that were often last redone when the house changed hands. The result is a suburb full of pools that are structurally fine but cosmetically and mechanically tired: stained marbelite, weeping fittings, pumps on their last bearings. That is precisely the work Gibbs Pools does. We are a Cape Town repair team covering Parow with relining and resurfacing, leak detection and pump and filtration repairs — with written quotes and case-study prices you can check before we arrive.

Need pool repairs in Parow? The quick answer:

  • Free on-site assessment with a written, itemised quote
  • Leaks, relining, pumps and filtration — one team for the whole job
  • Published case-study prices: 8m x 4m fibreglass reline R54 000 – R60 000

Most northern-suburbs pools are sound shells wearing tired surfaces — almost always restorable. Call 069 955 1310 or book your free pool assessment.

The borehole staining problem

Plenty of Parow pools get topped up from boreholes, and northern-suburbs borehole water often carries dissolved iron and manganese. The pool tells the story: tea-coloured or grey-black staining that brushing will not shift, especially after a big top-up. Here is the decision rule we use on site:

  1. Staining only, surface still smooth? A targeted stain treatment and water-balance correction usually restores it — a modest job.
  2. Staining plus rough or crazed surface? The stain has anchored into porous marbelite. Treatment buys time, but resurfacing is the real fix.
  3. Staining returns within weeks every time? Address the source water and the surface together, or you are renting a clean pool, not owning one.

Resurfacing and relining done properly

We resurface in marbelite and reline in fibreglass, and we photograph our jobs so you can see the preparation — the part that determines whether a new surface lasts twenty years or five. Benchmarks are public: our published 8m x 4m fibreglass reline case study came in at R54 000 to R60 000, and the nearby Monte Vista project shows what it takes to rescue a pool where a previous contractor’s lining had failed. We would rather show you finished work than promise you the world.

Signs you need pool repairs in Parow

Pools announce their problems early — the trick is recognising the language. If any of these sound familiar, an assessment now is cheaper than a repair later:

  • Marbelite that feels like sandpaper and scuffs skin — the surface is going porous
  • Stains that brushing cannot shift, especially after borehole top-ups
  • Black algae returning to the same spots every summer no matter the dosing
  • A pool that drinks chlorine — porous surfaces and tired filtration eat chemicals
  • Damp paving or a lush lawn strip near the pool that never dries

Leaks, pumps and the rest of the machine

Water disappearing faster than the weather explains? Pressure and dye testing find the leak before anyone lifts a paver. Pump screaming, tripping or blowing sand back into the pool? We repair motors, filters and valves where repair makes sense and say so plainly when it does not. One team, one written quote, one accountable phone number — the full menu is on our Cape Town repairs hub.

Choosing colours and finishes for your new pool lining

A reline is also a chance to change how the pool looks entirely. Pale linings read crisp and classic and make the water sparkle; mid-blue tones are the most forgiving day to day; charcoal and deep tones photograph beautifully but run warmer, mark more readily with scale, and demand disciplined water balance in our sun. We bring physical samples to the quote so you choose from real colours, not screen approximations.

Frequently asked questions

Can black algae be removed permanently?

From a smooth, sound surface, yes. From porous, aged marbelite, it keeps re-rooting — which is why chronic black algae is usually a resurfacing conversation, not a chemical one.

Is borehole water bad for my pool?

Not inherently, but it often needs treatment for metals before it touches the pool. We can test your fill water during the assessment and tell you what it is doing to the surface.

My pump hums but won’t start — is it dead?

Often it is just the capacitor, one of the cheapest fixes in the pool world. Switch it off at the DB and call — running it in that state is what kills the motor.

Do you give written quotes?

Always. Every assessment ends with an itemised written quote — no surprises, no verbal “roundabouts”.
