George pools take a particular kind of beating. The Garden Route swings between wet, humid spells and dry stretches, the ground moves with it, and older gunite and marbelite shells eventually show the strain — cracks along the steps, coping lifting off the edge, water quietly disappearing. We take on pool repairs and relining in George and the surrounding Garden Route, from structural crack work through to full re-surfacing.

We are Cape Town based, and George is a region we travel for regularly rather than a box we tick. That matters, because the pool problems here are not identical to the ones on the Peninsula — the higher humidity and the coastal air around the region work on fittings and surfaces differently, and the repair needs to account for it.
Structural crack repair
A crack that keeps opening is the most common reason George owners call us, and it is the one you do not want to paint over. We first work out whether a crack is cosmetic surface crazing or a live structural crack that is moving and losing water. Live cracks get cut out, reinforced and sealed properly before any resurfacing goes over the top — do it the other way round and the crack simply telegraphs straight back through the new finish within a season. Once the shell is sound again, we refinish so you cannot tell where the repair was.
Coping replacement and edging
Cracked, lifting or missing coping is both a trip hazard and a way for water to get in behind the shell and make things worse. We replace damaged coping, re-bed loose sections and sort out the paving and waterline detail so the pool edge is safe, sealed and looks right again. It is one of those jobs that quietly lifts the whole pool.
Leak detection in George
If your George pool is losing water faster than the weather explains, we find out why before recommending anything. We run the same disciplined process we use in Cape Town — confirming it is a genuine leak, isolating the shell from the fittings and the underground plumbing, and pressure-testing the lines — so you are not paying to reseal a surface when the real problem is a cracked pipe under the paving. The detail is on our pool leak detection page; the method travels with us.
Relining and resurfacing
When a George pool has gone past patching — chalky, stained, cracked in more than one place — relining is the reset. We reline in fibreglass for a continuous, non-porous, low-maintenance finish, or replaster in marbelite where an owner wants to keep the traditional look. If you are weighing the two up, our comparison of marbelite versus fibreglass and the detail on our relining page both apply just as much out here.
What pool repairs cost in George
George pricing tracks our Cape Town rates, with travel planned into scheduled Garden Route trips rather than charged as a call-out premium. As a guide: structural crack repair from R3,500 depending on length and depth, coping replacement from R2,500 for re-bedding loose sections through to R15,000 for a full perimeter, leak detection from R1,500, and a full fibreglass reline between R45,000 and R75,000 for an average domestic pool. Every job gets a written, itemised quote before we start — the assessment discussion costs nothing.
Choosing a pool repair company in George
George has capable local pool builders, and for a new installation we would happily tell you to use one. Where owners come to us is specialist repair work: structural crack repair that holds, relining over a properly reinforced base, and leak detection with pressure-testing equipment rather than dye and hope. Ask any company you speak to — us included — three things: whether they test before they quote, whether the quote is itemised in writing, and whether the repair carries a workmanship guarantee. If the answer to any of those is vague, keep looking.
Areas we reach from George
Trips are planned around George itself — Heatherlands, Denneoord, Blanco, Loerie Park and the surrounding suburbs — and extend along the coast to Wilderness, Victoria Bay, Herolds Bay and Groot Brakrivier, and inland when the booking makes sense. If several owners in one area book together, everyone’s travel gets cheaper; it is worth asking neighbours.
The rest of the Garden Route
Beyond George itself we cover the towns around it — the surrounding suburbs and the coastal stretch that shares the same climate and the same pool headaches. If you are unsure whether we reach you, it is worth a quick call; we plan Garden Route trips around the work, so the further-out jobs tend to slot in together.
Frequently asked questions
You are Cape Town based — do you really work in George?
Yes. George and the Garden Route are a regular part of what we do. We schedule regional trips around booked work, so it pays to get in touch early so we can slot you in.
Can a cracked pool be saved, or does it need replacing?
Most cracked pools can absolutely be saved. A live crack is repaired structurally and then the surface is relined over a sound base — far cheaper than a new pool and, done right, just as durable.
How do I know if my coping needs replacing or just re-bedding?
If the coping is cracked through or water is getting in behind it, it needs replacing. If it has simply worked loose, re-bedding is enough. We will tell you which when we see it.
Do you charge to come out to George?
We give you a clear, upfront quote that accounts for the job and the travel, so there are no surprises. The assessment discussion itself is free.
